When I started my MBA, I expected to gain technical knowledge, develop strong business skills, and build a solid foundation for my future. What I didn’t fully anticipate was how powerful a mentor’s support could be in shaping that journey. Mentorship adds depth to the experience by offering personalized guidance that complements everything learned in the classroom. It provides a layer of real-world relevance that helps connect academic concepts to practical decisions. Having someone who understands the industry and is willing to share their time, experience, and network can accelerate both your confidence and your career path in ways you don’t always expect.

One of the unique aspects of the MBA program is that each student is paired with a mentor who helps us navigate our goals, connect with people in the industry, and provide feedback on projects or career decisions. These mentors become an extension of the learning experience, offering practical advice and real-world perspective. One of my mentors was Phil Hoffmann (pictured above), and he played a key role in helping me expand my network and think more strategically about the direction I want to take. From sharing insights about the industry to encouraging me to pursue opportunities I hadn’t considered before, he helped me gain the confidence to step outside my comfort zone and take a more proactive approach to building my career.
Mentorship teaches you how to ask better questions, reflect more deeply, and make more intentional decisions. It brings clarity in moments of uncertainty and encouragement when you need it most. As I move forward in my career, I’ll carry the lessons and connections from this experience with me. For any MBA student, mentorship is more than a resource, it’s a relationship that can define your personal and professional growth in powerful ways.
