We are proud to highlight Master of Science in Business Analytics alumni, Hasan Khan! Graduating in May of 2024, Hasan offers a fresh perspective on the transition from the program to professional life.
Originally from Wheaton, a suburb of Chicago, Hasan began his journey as a Badger with his undergraduate studies, receiving a B.S. in Data Science with a minor in computer science in December of 2022. Hasan explains how this provided him with baseline experience using tools like Python, R, and SQL to collect, clean, and analyze data, and report findings. Inspired to expand on his existing knowledge, Hasan found the MSBA program to be a perfect fit.

Hands-On Application
During his time with the program, Hasan points out how he was not only given the technical skill toolkit, learning how to leverage tools like Tableau, Power BI, AWS, and Snowflake, but also the hands-on application. “I was able to really understand how businesses are using these tools to conduct analysis and drive change within their organization.” Specifically, Hasan points out the capstone project as being a catalyst for this, providing the opportunity to assist a company in answering complex business questions with insights from data analysis.
Visualizing a Future
Upon graduation, Hasan reflects on how the program influenced his career choice. Through coursework and projects, Hasan was able to visualize a future working with databases in a business setting to guide efficient decision making. “I greatly enjoy writing SQL queries to manipulate and transform data to effectively provide meaningful conclusions to clients,” Hasan shares. In his current role at Ankura as a Valuation and Transaction Disputes Associate, he does exactly that, working on supporting large high-profile and multi-billion-dollar tax controversy and corporate disputes. Specifically, he utilizes SQL Server and Excel to load, prepare, and analyze voluminous financial data from disparate sources to provide meaningful results.
Staff Commitment
Hasan shares the most impactful part of his journey to be the genuine care and commitment program staff make to the students’ success before, during, and after the program. “I think that it made a huge difference to know that program staff were truly invested in student wellbeing and growth; it most definitely contributed to my success in the program,” Hasan shares. “I would tell any prospective or current student to take advantage of any opportunity that is provided by the program; whether a career trek, a lunch & learn, or an analytics challenge, all these events are designed to help supplement professional growth and learning.”
