About 30 women interested in learning more about the real estate industry gathered in Grainger Hall for the Women in Real Estate’s (WIRE) kickoff event on Tuesday, September 24. At this meeting, returning and new members were introduced to WIRE’s goals and values as a community of women interested in learning more about career paths in the real estate industry. WIRE was founded in 2018 by three students from UW-Madison who wanted to create a club focused on empowering women within the real estate industry. Through both professional and social events, members can create meaningful relationships with fellow members and real estate professionals.
At the kickoff meeting, members of the Valuations team from Revantage Corporate Services – Kristin McGrath, Vice President, and Kelsey Gallivan, UW-Madison alum and Associate – came from Chicago to speak to the group. McGrath discussed how she helped develop and kick start the Valuations team at Revantage after working for a third-party valuations company, and how her team provides valuations services to Blackstone portfolio companies. After reviewing the basics on how to value a property, Gallivan spoke on how her experience at UW-Madison guided her to her current position.
One way WIRE promotes members to meet and learn from one another is through their mentorship program. This program matches an underclass-member with an upperclass-member each semester to make connections with other women in the Wisconsin Real Estate Program. “This program is part of one of our semester goals of focusing on building the community of WIRE members,” said WIRE president Annie Trucco.
WIRE will be hosting a panel event focused on real estate development on Wednesday, November 6, featuring members from each department of Dominium Development and Acquisitions. WIRE members will be able to learn more about a career in development and discuss current topics within the real estate industry. WIRE is also planning a trip to Milwaukee where members will be able to connect with real estate professionals later this semester.
