The leadership and friends of the WREAA, Graaskamp Center and Real Estate Department are meeting on August 5 and 6 for a strategic planning retreat. The purpose of the retreat is two-fold. First, to better align the interests and clarify the roles of the three groups, and second, and more importantly, to provide five-year path for the organizations. Over the coming weeks we are soliciting email input on the mission (why we exist), values (what is important to us) and vision (what we want to be) for the WREAA, Center and Department which combined we call the “Program.” In early August the group will then meet to discuss the strategy (our game plan) and how to meet the future needs of our students, alums, and other stakeholders.
While few of the initiatives that we discuss are likely be new, how and why we tackle them are likely to be fresh and new. Some issues that we are likely to address are: How does the Program provide quality outside-of-the-classroom student experiences as the number of undergraduate real estate majors has grown from 134 in academic year 2010-2011 to 469 in 2018-2019? Or, how does the Program provide best-in-class applied learning experiences for our alums and the industry? Or, what is needed to maintain our active and leading faculty research agenda? These are but a few of the topics that are likely to drive what I expect will be a robust and passionate discussion about real estate knowledge and talent formation and dissemination.
Identifying our priorities and how we reach them and will set the tone and direction of the program into the future. This is important work and I am thankful to the alums, board members, faculty, and staff for taking part in this journey.
Stay tuned for updates!
