About Jordan

Jordan Tong is Professor and Department Chair of Operations and Information Management at the Wisconsin School of Business, University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he holds the Robert M. Steiner Chair in Business.

Professor Tong's research sits at the intersection of behavioral science and operations. He studies the human judgments and decisions that drive operational systems — including forecasting, inventory, quality evaluation, screening, and healthcare decisions — why they go systematically wrong, and how to design processes that work with human cognition rather than against it. Much of his current work examines how humans and AI can make better decisions together. His research has appeared in leading academic journals such as Management Science, Operations Research, Psychological Science, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, and Production & Operations Management, as well as in practitioner outlets such as Harvard Business Review. He serves as an Associate Editor at Management Science and Operations Research and as a Senior Editor at Production & Operations Management.

Professor Tong teaches courses on operations, business analytics, and AI-enabled problem solving to undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students. He co-founded the Behavioral Operations Management Summer Institute (BOMSI) for PhD students and helped create and launch Wisconsin's MS in Business Analytics program. He received his PhD in Operations Management from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and his BA in Mathematics from Pomona College.
